Squirrels- 4 to 6 years
Squirrels is about getting outdoors and starting to explore the world around us, whilst having fun and adventure
Being a Squirrel
Joining us allows you to make lots of new friends, join in with fun activities, become adventurous, push your boundaries, and explore the world around you. It helps to improve confidence, problem solving skills, emotional resilience and communication skills – Skills For Life.
Hedgehogs have evolved to Squirrels
Hedgehogs was a pilot from the Scout Association with an aim to explore the possibility of Early Years within Scouting. The pilot was restricted to only 20 groups within London and 20 other groups across the rest of England. Our group was picked as one to trial the pilot following the hard work a dedication of our team of leaders. The pilot was a success and Squirrels were born from it.
Scouting values
Squirrels are made to feel a part of our group. They participate in a huge range of activities, games and story time. There are no sleepovers or camps for Squirrels, but will be invited to participate on a day trip to our summer camp.
After joining, Squirrels make a promise and become invested into the group. You’ll be invited to watch this special occasion.
Registering
We operate a waiting list and encourage young people to join this list as soon as possible -this can be done by going to the ‘Join Us’ form. As soon as space becomes available we will notify you by text and email, giving you full instructions on the next steps.
Subscriptions
As a group we need to cover the cost of equipment, resources and running costs. We keep these as low as possible. We charge £8 per month and £6 per month for siblings, all year round (12 monthly payment). Payments can be made by Payzip, PayPal or in person. See the link below for full details.
Weekly meetings
We meet at St Swithun’s Church, Cary Road, S2 1JP.
Squirrels sessions are every Monday term time. Meetings start at 4:30pm and finish at 5:30pm.
Uniform and awards
Squirrels wear a red jumper and our group necker. Our uniform gives us a sense of belonging. Uniform can be purchased through Scout shops
Each week we work towards a range of different badges through activities, both indoor and outdoor, along with games, challenges and having fun.
Leaders
All of our leaders are trained volunteers, working to make sure Scouting is safe and open to all. Some lead sessions week in and week out. Others visit occasionally to help run a session or drop in to share their skills.
Every adult member dedicates many hours each week to ensure your young person has a great time and learn skills that will benefit them for life. Further information about our leaders can be found on the ‘About’ page
No matter how much time you have to spare, find out about volunteering on your own terms – contact us to find out more.
