Beavers – 6 to 8 years

Try new things. Make new friends. Joining Beavers is just the beginning of your big adventure.

Being a Beaver

Joining us allows you to make lots of new friends, join in with fun activities, become adventurous, push your boundaries, and explore the world around you. It helps to improve confidence, problem solving skills, emotional resilience and communication skills – Skills For Life.

Scouting values

Beavers are a core part of the scout group. They participate in a huge range of activities, games, sleepovers and camps.

After joining, Beavers make a promise and become invested into the group. You’ll be invited to watch this special occasion.

Registering

We operate a waiting list and encourage young people to join this list as soon as possible -this can be done by going to the ‘Join Us’ form. As soon as space becomes available we will notify you by text and email, giving you full instructions on the next steps.

Subscriptions

As a group we need to cover the cost of equipment, resources and running costs. We keep these as low as possible. We charge £8 per month and £6 per month for siblings, all year round (12 monthly payment). Payments can be made by cash, card or preferably a recurring PayPal payment.

Weekly meetings

We meet at St Swithun’s Church, Cary Road, S2 1JP.

Beaver sessions are every Mondays term time. Meetings start at 6:15pm and finish at 7:30pm.

Uniform and awards

Beavers wear a blue sweatshirt and our group necker. Our sweatshirts give us space to sew on all of our badges and awards.

Each week we work towards a range of different badges through activities, both indoor and outdoor, along with games, challenges and having fun. Badges are given out at regular intervals and sewn onto our sweatshirts.

Leaders

All of our leaders are trained volunteers, working to make sure Scouting is safe and open to all. Some lead sessions week in and week out. Others visit occasionally to help run a session or drop in to share their skills.

Every adult member dedicates many hours each week to ensure your young person has a great time and learn skills that will benefit them for life. Further information about our leaders can be found on the ‘About’ page

No matter how much time you have to spare, find out about volunteering on your own terms – contact us to find out more.
