Being a Squirrel
Joining Squirrels allows you to make lots of new friends, join in with fun activities and explore the world around you. It helps to improve confidence, problem solving skills, emotional resilience and communication skills – Skills For Life.
About us
186th Sheffield (Manor) Scout Group established in April 2016. Formed to bring Scouting to the Manor estate and surrounding area. We offer fun, challenge and adventure, allowing members from all backgrounds to join in. We are passionate about what we do.
Registering
It is important that we have all the correct and relevant details for each Squirrel. Please ensure that you have completed the ‘Join Us’ form. Upon starting you will be given a full registration form to be completed.
Subscriptions
As a group we need to cover the cost of equipment, resources and running costs. We keep these as low as possible. We charge £8 per month, all year round (12 monthly payment). Payments can be made through Payzip, PayPal or in person. Please see the link below for full details.
Weekly nest meetings
Squirrels meetings are referred to as drey meetings. They happen at St Swithun’s Church, Cary Road, S2 1JP. Drey meetings are every Monday term-time only. Meetings start at 4:30pm and finish at 5:30pm.

Squirrels uniform and awards
Squirrels like to wear a red jumper which is available via Scout store (https://shop.scouts.org.uk/squirrels) – be sure to speak to us for a discount code. Generic red jumpers are welcome too or second hand from us by visiting https://186thsheffieldscouts.sumupstore.com/
This helps them feel like they belong and comfortable to explore and try things out without getting their normal clothes messy. There are other optional items available for Squirrels but we only require the jumper.
During investment the Squirrels are given their necker to show they belong to 186 Sheffield. If you need a replacement necker or woggle, these can be purchased from us.
Squirrels love to join in with activities, and each session they will be working towards a range of badges to go on their uniform
Squirrels Leaders
Squirrels is led by a team of leaders and helpers to ensure the night runs smoothly.
All of our leaders are trained volunteers, working to make sure Scouting is safe and open to all. Some lead the drey week in and week out. Others visit occasionally to help run a session or drop in to share their skills.
