Welcome. Please read all the information below, find out more about our group and what to expect over the next few weeks.
Being a Hedgehog
Joining Hedgehogs allow you to make lots of new friends, join in with fun activities and explore the world around you. It helps to improve confidence, problem solving skills, emotional resilience and communication skills – Skills For Life.
186th Sheffield (Manor) Scout Group established in April 2016. Formed to bring Scouting to the Manor estate. We offer fun, challenge and adventure, allowing members from all backgrounds to join in. We are passionate about what we do.
It is important that we have all the correct and relevant details for each Hedgehog. Please ensure that you have completed the ‘Join Us’ form. Upon starting you will be given a full registration form to be completed.
As a group we need to cover the cost of equipment, resources and running costs. We keep these as low as possible. We charge £8 per month and £6 per month for siblings, all year round (12 monthly payment). Payments can be made by cash, card or preferably a recurring PayPal payment.
Weekly nest meetings
Hedgehog meetings are referred to as nest meetings. They happen at St Swithun’s Church, Cary Road, S2 1JP. Nest meetings are every Monday term-time only. Meetings start at 4:30pm and finish at 5:30pm.
If we are doing something different we will be sure to let you know
Hedgehog uniform and awards
Once settled Hedgehogs get their own uniform – a t-shirt and necker. This helps them feel like they belong and comfortable to explore and try things out without getting their normal clothes messy.
T-shirts are purchased directly from us. During investment the Hedgehogs are given their necker to show they belong to 186 Sheffield. If you need a replacement necker or woggle, this can be purchased from us.
Hedgehogs love to join in with activities, and each session will get a sticker reward to go on their uniform plus a sticker in their log book. A sticker is also given for completing the previous week’s “homework”.
Hedgehogs is led by Laura, a highly experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant. She is very excited to be working with your Hedgehog. She has a team of assistant leaders and helpers to ensure the night runs smoothly.
All of our leaders are trained volunteers, working to make sure Scouting is safe and open to all. Some lead the nest week in and week out. Others visit occasionally to help run a session or drop in to share their skills. No matter how much time you have to spare, find out about volunteering on your own terms – contact us to find out more.
