Ensuring we provide safe scouting

First Response

Access to courses is provided through South Yorkshire County and the First Response Coordinator. The course comprises of either a 6-hour face to face session, or a zoom sessions plus a practical validation session. This course must be completed every 3 years. The old refresher course is no longer available Holders of a valid full paediatric first aid certificate may be exempt from completing this course but would need to speak to the First Response Coordinator to confirm – send your ceritifcate to the GSL to check.

Safety

The Scout Association offers a number of pieces of training containing information to help deliver and manage safe Scouting. You will first come across safety content in Essential Information as part of your induction and then in Running Safe Activities for Section Leaders or the Safety module of the Managers and Supporters training. All adults are required to undertake the ongoing safety training every three years. Upon completion of the e-learning you will get a certificate that needs to be forwarded to the Group Scout Leader.

Additionally, to aid remembering Safety please carry and use the Purple Card.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility. All adults are required to undertake the ongoing safeguarding training every three years. This can be completed in person or online through e-learning. Upon completion of the e-learning you will get a certificate that needs to be forwarded to the Group Scout Leader.

Additionally, to aid remembering Safeguarding please carry and use the Yellow Card.
